Topping-out ceremony at the EMW construction site in Berlin-Mitte

Security facade at the Chancellor Garden

Berlin-Mitte, July 11, 2023 - A happy event recently took place at the construction site on Ingeborg-Drewitz-Allee when the topping-out ceremony for the expansion of the Federal Ministry of the Interior (BMI) was celebrated. The 13-storey administration building marks the completion of the long-awaited planning by the Berlin office of Thomas Müller Ivan Reimann Architekten for the Berlin office of the Federal Ministry of the Interior. The new building is expected to be completed by 2024 under the direction of the Federal Office for Building and Regional Planning (BBR) on behalf of the Federal Agency for Real Estate Tasks (BImA).

Around 100 guests were present at this important event, including the Federal Minister of the Interior, Nancy Faeser. In her speech, she emphasised the excellent cooperation between those involved and the impressive adherence to schedules and budgets of the project. It is gratifying to see how the BMI expansion project in Berlin-Mitte is still on the road to success.

As a well-known supplier of high-quality components and security systems, SOMMER made a significant contribution to the success of this project.

One of SOMMER's main services in the EMW project (extension Moabiter Werder) is the punched window security facade. Safety is the top priority in public buildings. In addition, an external on-site natural stone cladding is implemented, which gives the building an aesthetically pleasing and high-quality appearance. The use of natural stone harmoniously connects the architecture with the surroundings and creates an impressive overall impression.

Another important contribution from SOMMER are the security doors, including sliding and revolving doors. These doors not only ensure the protection of employees and visitors to the building, but also provide smooth access and efficient use of the premises.

In January 2023, parallel to the last shell construction measures, the interior construction began. The BMI extension will create around 350 office jobs and a visitor centre. The successful completion of the shell construction measures and the recently celebrated topping-out ceremony are milestones on the way to the completion of the BMI extension building.

SOMMER is proud to be part of this groundbreaking project, which not only meets the functional requirements of the BMI, but also sets architectural accents.
